I’m Beshka Kueser, an artist and surface pattern designer from San Antonio, Texas. I divide my time between Texas and Europe, which is where I currently am with my husband, our two teens, and our two cats - we like sets of two.
I paint abstracts and create surface pattern designs. I love painting abstracts because they have this undefinable quality that is so freeing. It can be an emotion or a glimpse of an experience that I hope the viewer can relate to. I typically come to the canvas without a predetermined plan in mind - I show up with a notion, a color I am feeling tied to, and fingers crossed. Because I work this way my work tends to have a lot of layers and texture as I try to uncover the painting. My work is inspired by daily life, often the mundane, so you may find layers of color and then the outline of a glass or a piece of fruit.
When I am not painting I am busy designing surface patterns. When it comes to design, I prefer straight lines over curvy ones and injecting an element of fun wherever I can. My patterns are often bold, graphic, primitive, and colorful. I also love to create playful little worlds or scenes that are much more dense and make for a more complex design. Geometrics and conversationals are my favorite types patterns to design.
I am a self taught artist but I have had a lot of help along the way from countless creatives who have put themselves and what they know out there for the taking, for which, I am eternally grateful. I am a maker enthusiast so I am always discovering and playing with ‘new to me’ mediums and I try to find ways to incorporate these discoveries into my work. Last year I discovered a love for collage and linocut stamps, which now show up in my surface pattern designs. My next creative adventure begins in the fall, when I will be taking ceramics courses at the Southwest School of Art.

I am married to a cyborg. Seriously.
I once fell asleep at an Ozzy Osbourne concert. I know you probably want more info, but I am going to leave it at that.
I am 5'3". I thought this was worth mentioning because it always comes as a surprise to internet friends when I meet them for the first time. I guess I talk a tall game on the internet, but I'm not. I'm short.
I could eat Tex-Mex every day of the week.
I am a leftie, which isn’t necessarily fun, but it is a fact.
